Our Firm was founded as a partnership on July 1, 1969, when the partnership of Steyer & Huber was organized. Joseph Steyer and Charles E. Huber were the founding partners.

Our Firm continued to grow and on January 1, 1975, was incorporated as a professional corporation, at which time the firm name of Steyer Huber & Associates, Inc., was established.

A major addition of clientele occurred on May 16, 1977, when the public accounting firm of Fred F. Figley was acquired. Mr. Figley had been in practice in Defiance for many years and with thoughts of retirement in mind sold his practice to Steyer Huber & Associates, Inc. Mr. Figley was employed by the Firm until a smooth transition of his clientele was achieved and then retired on May 1, 1978.

Another major addition of clientele occurred on November 1, 1978, when the Van Wert, Ohio, CPA firm of Richard R. Shultz was merged into our Firm. Mr. Shultz acquired an interest in the Firm as a result of the merger. Mr. Shultz retired on June 30, 1994.

An interest in the Firm was acquired by Terry L. Melton on January 2, 1980 and by James R. Schatz on January 2, 1986, by Timothy J. Yoder on May 1, 1996, by Barbara L. Kohnen on May 1, 1997. In addition to Charles Huber and Richard Shultz, former owners include Joseph Steyer, Greg Steyer, and Duane Steyer.

A further major addition of clientele occurred on October 1, 2000, when the firm of Grover L. Rutter, CPA, of Findlay, Ohio, was acquired.

In September 2010 the firm was renamed Shultz Huber & Associates, Inc. This name change takes the firm back to its roots and is an expression of how important these early founders are to the firm we are today.

At present, our Firm has 44 employees, including owners. The owners include Terry L. Melton, James R. Schatz, Timothy J. Yoder and Barbara L. Kohnen. We have offices located in Archbold, Defiance, Findlay and Van Wert, Ohio.
